Lounging on Lago di Maggiore

If you, fellow chic adventurer, like me, hate crowds, then look no farther than the small bathing beaches along Lake Maggiore for some peace and quiet. On a recent trip, I was fortunate enough to find this little spaggio with a small parking lot off the main road and stairs down onto a platform and rocky beach. The water was clear and clean, the views of nearby mountains spectacular. Swimming definitely recommended.

To get to this beach, Cinque Arcate, take either the SP61 through Luino, and then head south to the southern portion of Lake Maggiore, or take the SS394 through Germignana, again heading south and linking up with the SP69. A few miles south, you’ll see a little ice cream shop on your left and then the sign for the beach (and the stairs) on your right. Be sure to bring a towel and/or chair as you will need something to cushion your precious little behind.
